Recording of the webinar "Pretreatment Program Enhancements: Digital Solutions"

On September 17 2020 we had the pleasure to host a webinar together with John Abrera, P.E. (Brown and Caldwell), Tasha King-Davis, P.E. (Environmental Compliance City of Memphis), Joshua Balentine, EIT (Brown and Caldwell) and Brendt Thompson from s::can. They discussed how advanced monitoring and instrumentation can help a utility in better manage their pretreatment program by increasing compliance, protecting sewer, lift station and treatment assets and providing opportunities for optimization at the treatment facility with the use of predictive analytics.

About the presenters:

John Abrera has more than 35 years of experience specializing in the application of Information Technology (IT) for utilities and local governments. He is currently supporting IT projects utilizing new technologies in data platform, predictive analytics, machine-to-machine (M2M), and internet-of-things (IoT) and their application to utilities and local governments. John works in BC’s Digital Water Practice as the National Integrated Digital Applications Leader, where his focus is on the application of smart sensor and data platforms to solve specific problems for utilities. He is a professional engineer in Georgia and Colorado and holds an Environmental Compliance License, Collection System Operator License and Water and Wastewater Treatment Operator Licenses.

Tasha King-Davis is the Administrator of Environmental Compliance and Permits for the City of Memphis which consist of one of the larger storm water programs in TN and one of the largest pretreatment Industrial Pretreatment programs in the country. Her professional background covers all aspects of environmental compliance and engineering design including wastewater treatment and conveyance, including sewer design, wastewater operations, stormwater and source control. She went to college at the University of Kansas where she not only majored in Architectural Engineering but was recruited to play basketball. She is a Professional Engineer and holds a grade 4 wastewater operator’s license in Tennessee.

Joshua Balentine serves as a Project Manager and the Pretreatment Program Technical Lead for Brown and Caldwell. His professional background is diverse, including managing a large municipal pretreatment program and a contractor for the U.S. EPA and various states. He is the technical lead for the Memphis Smart Utilities project where smart sensors are monitoring the discharge of industries in real-time. He has a degree in Civil Engineering and holds wastewater operator licenses in Tennessee and Arizona.
